Meet Dr. Francisco Morales Jr.
Dr. Morales is an optometrist in Andrews, Texas. His office is Andrews Vision Center. Dr. Morales is also an author and our primo. His first book, Coyame A History of the American Settler, is a must-have for any person who wishes to know more about Mexican or American history. It is critically important to any person, American, Mexican, Mexican-American, Indian, or otherwise, with roots in the area of Coyame, Chihuahua, Mexico. We think even more so if you happen to be a FRANCO. The staff here at the FRANCO FAMILY REUNION website found it impossible to put the book down. Any attempt to place  "Coyame" into a strict category also borders on the impossible. To read "Coyame" is to read the history of Mexico that includes Aztecs, Spaniards, Napolean and the French, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Apaches, Revolution, Pancho Villa, and Mexico's golden era. Yet, "Coyame" is about much more. Dr. Morales also examines much about the forces affecting Mexico from north and east of the Rio Grande. "Coyame" explores the United States' policies toward Mexico and the treatments Mexicans experienced when their land was pulled out from under their feet. We decline to give much in the way of detail. Read "Coyame," hopefully with the appreciation felt by our staff at FRANCO FAMILY REUNION. We will say that it was refreshing to get a history lesson that is not biased by the "history" begun at Plymouth Rock. "Here, you only learn about Mexico through Texas history," said Dr. Morales in a recent interview with FRANCO FAMILY REUNION. "What about our history? I began this book as a way to find out. I didn't set out to write about the Francos, they just happened to be there as part of Coyame." The stories and accounts found in "Coyame" are colorful, humorous, serious and historically important for a lot of families. The Francos are happy to be among those who benefit greatly from Dr. Morales' work. Coyame is where this story is "centered." Read it and feel the joy. Dr. Morales says that he hopes to soon begin work on another book that will take a closer look at the Indian connection. Geronimo!
